The Lost Boys
Director: Joel Schumacher
Writers: Jan Fisher, James Jermias, and Jeffery Boam.
Cast: Jason Patric (Michael), Corey Haim (Sam), Dianne West (Lucy), Barnard Hughes (Grandpa), Edward Hermann (Max), Kiefer Sutherland (David), Jami Gertz (Star), Corey Feldman (Edger Frog), Jamison Newlander (Alan Frog), Brooke McCarter (Paul), Billy Wirth (Dwayne), Alex Winter (Marko), and Chance Michael Corbitt as Laddie.
Lucy (Dianne West), and her two sons moved to Santa Carla California, a fresh start, and new beginnings. The only house she could afford is the one her father, Grandpa (Bernard Hughes) now the family resides in.
Lucy (West), gets a job at the local video store, meanwhile her two sons Michael (Jason Patric), heads out to a party on the beach, meanwhile Sam (Corey Haim) checks out the local comic store. The party has a multitude of people, including four young adults, they look older, but either way, their look is good enough to attract many, but they keep a distance, watch over every detail.
Sam (Corey Haim) checks out the comic book store, plenty of great issues on display, but he notices two strange, young teens looking at Sam's every move. The teens, better known as the Frog Brothers, Edger Frog (Corey Feldman), and Alan Frog (Jamison Newlander) give Sam some reading material, thinking of the circumstances, situations in this town. The brothers being a bit leading, give Sam (Corey Haim) a copy of a vampire horror comic. Not sure what to think, Sam takes the comic. Star (Jami Gertz) is a beautiful young lady that catches Michael (Jason Patric) looking at her, they both have a strong attraction to each other. Meanwhile, David (Kiefer Sutherland), Paul (Brooke McCarter), Dwayne (Billy Wirth), and Marco (Alex Winter), they watch Michael (Jason Patric), and Star (Jami Gertz) from a far. Something is different here in the town of Santa Carla, maybe it's the people, or it being the murder capital of the world, but one things for sure, the supernatural resides here in this town, the very haven for creatures that lurk in the night.
The story continues with Lucy getting a job at the local video store, Sam (Corey Haim) sees supernatural occurrences, like his brother sleeping later, wearing sunglasses to keep bright light out, at all periods of the day or night, the strange beautiful Star (Jami Gertz) and Laddie (Chance Michael Corbitt) are seen coming and going along with Michael (Jason Patric). The very weird Frog brothers, Edger (Corey Feldman), and Alan Frog (Jamison Newlander) help the new guy in town with a top secret mission, Sam seems to think Max (Edward Herrmann) is a vampire, when the Frog brothers get involved, everything comes tumbling down.
The overall story is not to hard to grasp, not because of it being a horror, or comedy but because the story is simple to the point. A family moves into a town that happens to have an infestation, and that is kept under raps till later in the film, not to much later, but enough to keep you interested. The cool thing is that Santa Monica (Santa Carla), was the murder capital of the world and it really had an explanation why folks died off, or in this case killed, drained by vampires. The connections here are so good, even the character, Laddie (Chance Michael Corbitt), you know the young boy vampire is not overlooked, he is a simple character but one that is important to Star, and that my friends links Michael to Star, and the vampire horde. The connections are so good here, it makes the film more than just a vampire movie.
Frog brothers, Edger and Alan Frog these guys are the comedy along with Sam, the freaked out new guy in town, just realized that vampires infest the town of Santa Carla. The connection here is between Sam and Edger, played by Corey Haim and Corey Feldman. The two actors after there first screen time together will go on making films, they will have become a comedy icon.
Lost Boys has another huge draw, and that is the soundtrack, the music plays well with the story, as if every scene were written together. The magic to this film, is simple, it's soundtrack with the story makes this one of the best vampire movies, even in comparison to other films of today. The 1987 film will always be better than most films not because of the action or comedy, but because of the strong connections the characters all had with each other. Watch this film, and compare it to any vampire film and i will guess Lost Boys hits number one every time. The film has comedy, action, suspense, everything you could want in a movie.
So when you're in a vampire kinda mood, check out Lost Boys the first film not the sequels.
