The film starts off with elderly people being interviewed on TV monitors, they describe a time where living was very hard.  Having a computer was a luxury, cars are no longer made, technology as a whole has become a past experience.  The climate would be riddled with dust storms, people had to wear masks to protect themselves from the dust storms
