Avengers: Age Of Ultron
Director: Joss Whedon
Writers: Joss Whedon based off of Marvel characters created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.
Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark/Iron Man), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner/Hulk), Chris Evans (Steve Rogers/Captain America), Scarlett Johansson (Natasha Romanoff), Jeremy Renner (Clint Barton/Hawkeye), James Spader (Ultron), Smauel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Don Cheadle (James Rhodes/WarMachine), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver), Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch), Paul Bettany (Jarvis/Vision), Hayley Atwell (Peggy Carter), Idris Elba (Heimdall), Stellan Skarsgard (Erik Selvig), Linda Cardellini (Laura Barton), Claudia Kim (Dr. Helen Cho), Thomas Kretschmann (Strucker), Andy Serkis (Ulysses Klaue), and Julie Delpy (Madame B).
The film starts out in a remote Hydra base, all Hydra agents are trying to protect the scepter that houses the infinity gem. Strucker (Thomas Kretschmann) has a fortified base of operations, but unknown to the Avengers he has a weapons of the sorts, two very important people. Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Pietro Maximoff (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), Hydra's ace in the deck of cards, the key to beating the Avengers.
Before the battle takes place, an episode of Agents of Shield; "Dirty Half Dozen," Agent Maria Hill stars as both Shield groups work together in the destruction of yet, another Hydra base in the Arctic. One group has the Director of the real Shield., Robert Gonzales (Edward James Olmos), the other covert team, has Director Coulson (Clark Gregg). All of the same but, each has it's own agenda. Gonzales (Olmos) wants to take down super powered humans, while the other wants to save them. Each has there own secrets but, only one has the power to control events around the world. Coulson (Gregg) has a direct line to Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), he has information of the whereabouts of one of Hydra's leader, Strucker (Kretschmann).
Either way both teams have there secrets, Coulson (Gregg) called for the Avengers to take the remote Hydra base, in it is the infinity gem, experiments are done by Strucker (Kretschmann) and his agents, the high level protocols will be needed in order to proceed. Gonzales's (Olmos) team doesn't know anything about the whereabouts of Stucker or the infinity gem location.
Flash forward, present time to the opening sequence of the film, the Hydra agents were taken out to perfection, no problems until the twins got involved. Wanda (Elizabeth Olson) went inside the heads of each of the characters, it played out almost to well, perfection at it's best. Each of the heroes had a piece of their memories, or possible future in a dream-like sequence, the Scarlet Witch twisted and turned reality, making it all to real.
The Rant: Reviewing a film like this maybe a little difficult, not because of the content, but because the reviewer, meaning me, has to be fair and balanced. I understand the rules, know how to play as well, but if i don't know like something, or in the case of the Avengers: Age Of Ultron, i will tell you the truth, if it's bad, i won't hesitate. Before i dig deep, i will focus my rant on the other reviews i have read, and to my knowledge these fans, whatever they seem to be, is yes, an opinion. like i said, i know the way it works, so bare with me.
Tony Stark: We all know who this is by now, so i will not go in detail, but i will explain why? Iron man 3 plot or situational past was only hinted in the film, which is fine, paying attention is all part of watching a film. The party sequence was played out well, it had Tony to even his good friend James Rhodes (Don Cheadle) also known as War-Machine. Remember, back to Iron Man 3 where Tony suffered head trauma due to the events of the alien race, Chitauri in the first Avengers film, well all that happened to one man, he endured to many things from the mysterious, Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce), to the idea of a powerful individual called the Mandarin. The terrorist leader, played by the actor Trevor Slattery, he along with Killian (Pearce) had concocted the Mandarin, its idea of power was enough, but that was only a front for the plans he had Stark and company. The point is all the events did not go unnoticed in Age Of Ultron. Tony was done in the end of Iron Man 3, he had made a decision to end everything. but started up again by the time he rejoined with the Avengers, remember the threat of Hydra remains, and if you know the character of Tony Stark, did you really think he would truly end his Iron man projects? The Ultron project he developed was the end of the end. So his efforts were in vain not because of the way he acted, but the way he wanted it to turn out. The Ultron project was supposed to be the end of the end, but in turn what was the creation of beauty became something very evil.
Plot: My next victim is the reviewer that stated there is no plot, you're wrong, and let me explain why? In the case for Avengers, i have to admit I'm a bit biased. Fast In The Furious 7 you gave that film a huge rating, but Ultron your biggest bust was the plot. A car racing in a building, extremely fast, going through glass from the inside of a sky-scrapper, somehow landing inside another untouched, while the car is still in motion, the lead character manages to get out in time before the car's momentum takes the everything to the ground; At least in the Age Of Ultron we are dealing with super-powered people, what's the excuse for Fast 7? Super-powered vs Super hip roadsters, no comparison. My point is that there was a plot, the continued infinity gem storyline in all Marvel films, a very bad sentient robot created by Stark, and all the characters involvements in the film. Wanda, Vision, Pietro, three new characters which is very difficult to implement in a story, but yet the writer, Joss Whedon did a wonderful job of Balancing all the characters, and adding new ones. The story had flow, it's action twisted, turned, all the characters blended with the flow of the story and superhero films with large casts are very difficult to not only write. The control, flow of the story was done well. So to that reviewer who thought the story, plot was nonsense, or whatever, you my friend are so wrong. But, instead you made comparisons to a super-hero movie plot, and the movie you decided to compare it to was Fast 7. The only reason why? Fast 7 was so successful was the death of Paul Walker, he was a great actor and don't get me wrong, but you know I'm right here. The Crow, The Dark Knight, actors like Brandon Lee, and Heath Ledger were all great actors but the films got a boosts in the box office, because of there deaths. The media, internet, everyone knew about the deaths of these actors, so the film got a head start.
Black Widow: The relationship between Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) was not only sweet, but it added to the story. One guy had mentioned that their relationship was forced, didn't work. Wrong again! it not only worked, it made the film so much better. Bruce has conflict inside of him, the rage called the "Hulk," it's so strong that in the film he went with what was best for him, and Widow. He wanted to pursue the relationship, but in the end he couldn't because of the danger inside of him. In Captain America: The Winter Soldier film, all of Shield was lost because of the Hydra assimilating in their world wide operations. Remember what Natasha Romanoff lost? Everything she had worked for to keep a secret was open to the public, even painful moments in her life. Lets go back to Age Of Ultron, it makes sense, because they both come from different paths but the idea of two possible destructive people falling in love is not unheard of. The conflict of two undesired people, wanting so much out of life, came together in this film almost a blessing in disguise. Natasha (Johansson) understands Bruce (Ruffalo), she can deal with the destructive creature that lives inside him. Bruce wants to be left alone because of the "Hulk," and the conflict between there very possible relationship continues.
Marvel vs DC: Super-Hero films from these two feuding giants come and go, but their characters are what keeps the fans, audiences coming back. Comics are loved by all ages of people, now to watch these characters come to life on film is truly amazing. Love Batman, Superman as well as the Avengers, but to see them on film is a feat in itself. I Remember many, many, years ago when i was growing up collecting comics; from Spiderman, X-Men, to the Dark Knight himself. These stories were all written well, it was a dream of mine come true, to see them on the silver screen. Both companies had their share of bad films, which i will not mention. The point is no matter where your true love is, movie companies battle over copyright; and it makes me kind of angry to see what these companies continue to press. Example, one movie giant has a very different Quicksilver. One is Peter while the other company calls the character by his true name, Pietro Maximoff. The Avengers film, without mentioning movie companies names, has powered people. The other company has the proper use of the word "Mutant," it really ticks me off, they are what they are, finish your issues, and be done with it so that the simple words, or word can be use accordingly. The feud continues, and it's getting worse because it's all by the same creator. X-men, Avengers, all under Marvel comics, but yet two different film giants makes the creative decision to exclude the term "Mutants," at least DC has Meta-Humans and they really don't have that Marvel problem.
In the end this movie is so much fun, from witty humor to an entanglement of action scenes that are truly amazing. One other thing i would like to mention is the humor is and always will be part of the comics and there plot lines. Sorry, but the another guy that reviewed Ultron had said that the humor in the sentient robot was unnatural and it would never happen. Well it did! and again, they forgot that Ultron fused everything that was Tony Stark, his knowledge and even his humor inside his memory, his hatred for Stark was overwhelming, it was a huge part of the story. Ultron and Tony both had humor and in the story Ultron used that humor in order to mock Tony, in a big way. Either way the film was very good, check it out, and hopefully i have settled some of that confusion from all those unsettling opposites of mine who hate and to be fair, it's just an opinion.
