Hope your Thanksgiving was good, staying with family is a wonderful thing especially when your the one invited, not the cook.  Anyway, we head right to December month, was going to review a Christmas film each week but, that would be a bit boring, at least for me it would. Plus, Star Wars is just two weeks away, and that's a target film i would like on my site.  The first week of December has been busy for me, to say the least.  My kid had two concerts, one was a full School band thing, all the Middle School kids were up on stage playing their favorite instrument.  My daughter plays the Clarinet, she's really good at it, so proud of her.  The week continued with the next concert, choir.  Yes my kid sings as well, her voice is truly amazing.  Big props to all the kids that worked hard, a huge applause, especially for my daughter who was awesome.
The biggest challenge i have is picking the right film, it all started with my daughter, my oldest one, not the one in band or Middle School.  My oldest has her own daughter, which by the way is a handful.  Anyway, we were checking out a movie to watch, and mind you, i just was going to watch it, not review it. We picked "The Voices," and after watching, i decided to use it for review, don't know how it happened, but it did.  Watching it with my daughter, and deciding to review at the last minute was kinda fun. Don't know how it happened, but it just does, i watch something, which gives me ideas, and Bam! I'll decide to put it up on my site, anyway without further ado, please enjoy The Voices.

Rant:  Ryan Reynolds is an unappreciated actor, his roles are either dead on or the film sucks and the only thing keeping the film alive is the actor. Remember the film the Green Lantern, great idea, the concept was cool, but the plot didn't' really hold up, in fact even though the film was written by a good writer, Greg Berlanti, it still wasn't enough. The box office numbers pretty much tell the story of how it played out, and believe me it wasn't good.
The main problem with superhero films today is just like this one, it tries to be bigger than life, and Hal Jordan aka the Green Lantern started small; Granted you have a two hour window to tell a story, which is kinda hard, no complaints there, it sucks i know.  Anyway, Hal was to big, everything went to fast, in fact the scenes with the other protagonists was cool, but the scenes didn't hold up. The problem is comics, and the folks who love them, fanboys know the stories all to well; And i know DC, but what about the guy who has never picked up a comic book, or has no idea about the comics.  So in a way i understood what the writer tried to convey, which i would've worked but the personal, emotional experiences were not there, and that's what killed the film.  A good example of this would be Spider man, a hero who can be anyone of us.  Green Lantern wasn't a strong enough of character, especially the extensive history of the character; And in my opinion, it hurt the film.

Ranted about Ryan Reynolds, now i would like to continue my rant about how good the story was, imagine a man working besides you, he is kinda weird but in some ways you feel compelled to have him tag along with the company outings.  Getting to know the guy, you realize that everything said about the weird guy is wrong, and now you settle for nice, quiet, reserved dude.  Later at the company outing the guy asks you on a date, saying yes is the only answer because everyone looks at you awkwardly.  After being pushed in the corner, you manage to say yes, and everything is cool.  Afterwards, you get his number, and the next outing is in a car going to dinner at a local dive.  The night goes pretty well, all your thoughts about this dude is dead wrong, a smile, a kiss, and everything is good, a bit normal, his unusual way of getting your attention manages to put you in a difficult situation.  The story of Jerry and the people around him makes this plot work, because as the viewer perceives what is happening, the plot turns on you and the nice, quiet guy we love transcends into a very powerful serial killer. In fact the way the story played out was well done, especially the way Jerry viewed the world, in his eyes everything was a smurf village, but in reality the chaos and terror he caused was insane.  The writer knew how to portray  mental illness, the situations were done well; Through the amazing acting abilities of Reynolds was right were it should be, viewed as beautiful, clean place, but in the eyes of one without the illness the scene are very different, a cold, dirty, in the case of the film, bloody place he called home.

Films like these are taken with a grain of salt, but when watched, and i will assure you my friends it's an experience, roller costar ride of your life. The film will definitely take you up and down; The plot is so good, weird in way that it almost explodes in your face.  A small simple explosion, enough for you to come to terms with what just happened. Films like these should be noticed, i guess when you have a limited budget, your advertisement is'nt where it should be, it almost anchors the film. The supporting actors were all good, Gemma Arterton (Fiona), Anna Kedrick (Lisa), Ella Smith (Alison), and Jacki Weaver (Dr. Warren).  Would like to give a huge shout out! to the extras and the production team, which without there help, no film, period.

Mental illness is the main theme in this film, i mean it leads up to it, but on the way you'll enjoy the awesome performance that Reynolds gives, he is truly an amazing actor. And, to turn the rant somewhere else for a bit.  Deadpool is definitely on my list of movies to review, coming soon.  Sorry getting off point, but i had to mention his latest film because it's a new film, and because it's Deadpool. And getting back to "Voices," the Mr. Whiskers scenes were all good, the dog being Jerry's subconscious and Jerry going back and forth, talking to both animals, while trying to manage going to work, seeing his therapist, is almost draining for him but enough to drive him crazy. The communication between the dog, cat, the constant chatter between himself is really what makes this film a gem. The way he chopped the body parts of his victims,  placing their heads in the fridge was kinda funny, in a dark way.  The film delivered and after all the film holds up on it's own with other cult classics, at least for me it was a well written screenplay, with actors that made the film, very watchable.
