Opening Credits:
By this time around we will be closer to the Superbowl. The New England Patriots Vs Atlanta Falcons. Every year at work, the guys generate a Fantasy Football league, which i'm the commissioner. Sometimes that can be alright i guess, the responsibility of handling the rules and complaints of managers is a bit draining, but fun. At least you could win or lose with confidence right? Nope not my league, we gave each other trash talk to the point of no return. I mean the way the game goes, Fantasy wise is kinda cool. The starters, benched players, everything that goes with the game makes the whole process fun. So to everyone in the game, going to the game or just watching it. Go! Patriots
Why? i'm i writing about this, because sometimes reaching out to other audiences is helpful to the cause. How many Football fans are movie fans? I bet there are too many to count. The main reason for this whole opening credit gig is basically all about me. What my interest are. The biggest challenges in my week, or how many hours of sleep do i get because of a little bitty called Delaney. My newborn daughter has taken every bit of energy. I struggle at work at home, but i guess that's the main challenge, it's called being a parent. Anyway, good luck with your football picks, and if you're a father like myself, and just happen to have a newborn at 44, well congrats, and good luck with everything, because you'll need it.
Explicit material. Warning not for any young viewers, readers at least for this weeks review. Not a Deadpool movie, but it has language that isn't intended for young audiences, and if you do read on, i warned you. The language and use of it has sexual scenes that are not, and i mean not for kids. But if you just happen to catch the film, do not blame it on me. I did warn you so read on at your own risk.
Review:
Amy Mitchell (Mila Kunis) a 30 yr old mom who is over worked, traffic is always an issue. Getting the kids to school. Working with lazy millennials at the part time coffee shop, with her boss Dale Kipler (Clark Duke). Amy's children Jane (Oona Laurence), and Dylan (Emjay Anthony) are always on the go. Dylan received a D in school while Jane is waiting for the school soccer team posts online. The very thought of not being on the team puts her at a huge disadvantage, especially with a smart girl like Jane. In her mind she thinks making the team and having excellent grades will get her in any school, college. But, as long as her little mind continues to think that way, then all power to her.
The PTA has a President, and her name is Gwendolyn James (Christina Applegate). She is the most overbearing, ridicules insensitive person at least here in the Chicago suberbs. Her followers include Stacy (Jada Pinkett Smith), and Vicky (Annie Mumolo) they're Gwendolyn's shadows. Where ever Gwen turns her little followers are not to far behind. They insult, push, and think they're the reason to live. The PTA is what they live for, and many times those three Amiga's push Amy to the point of no return, and it's all about the PTA.
Later that evening after dinner, Amy walks in on Mike (David Walton) masturbating. He quickly stops, and recognizes he is caught in the act. He turns off the computer. Amy walks over to him, at first she doesn't care that it's porn, but what she did not care for is the web cam, and the naked woman he was addressing in a lewd way. She is informed that this action has been going on for 10 months. Afterwards she kicks the computer monitor and everything in the room. Her rage enables her to throw her husband out of the house.
"Well, as a therapist, I'm not allowed to tell you what to do. But ,uh, as a human being with to fucking eyes in my head, yeah i think you should get a divorce as soon as possible. This is some catastrophic shit." -Dr. Karl-
The film from the start to finish is really well written. The comedic prowess behind the dialog is so good. Smart, snarky, almost wish the film had more than an 1 Hr 47 min. It was just one of those rare comedy films, like the Hangover. The brilliant screen play makes this little film very watchable, granted it has language, suggested scenes, but who really cares because it does it's job as a movie, and it is rated R. The flow of the story is done well, it doesn't stray which is very difficult with comedies because the formula can be a bit crazy sometimes. An example of comedies with no real flow are as follows. Some Adam Sandler films, the ones that are crazy with no real point; Like the Do-Over (2016), and the Ridiculous 6 (2015). Those films are all over the place, and to me it is what it is, but comedies should have the same rules as dramas, mysteries, etc. But the reality is simple here, they don't. The comedies go a very different path, and it maybe alright sometimes, but watching a film like Bad Moms is refreshing, it has the three Acts, and it flows.
Mila Kunis, Kathryn Hahn, Kristen Bell the main three gals of the film are amazing. There connection, and characters make this film very watchable. Mila Kunis plays Amy it all starts with her and the life that she is leading. A bit to much. Train wreak that continues until she just stops. Then there is Kathryn Hahn she plays the bad ass Carla. She is the party kinda gal, a taker of life. Gets what she wants no matter the costs. And then coming in last, but not least is Kristen Bell who plays Kiki. The gal is horny as hell, but when it comes to her husband, this stay at home mom does everything he asks, especially taking care of the kids. And when she speaks about what she does in bed, laughter till you drop.
"You give your kids salad. you remember your kids birthdays! I mean, I've sat here and watched you wait until your kid fell asleep before you get high." -Carla-
"Most moms do that, Carla." -Amy-
The film is funny, it may have language, explicit themes, but like i said it is rated R. And as a comedy stand point, it does the job in a incredible way. The characters are great. But what about the rest of the cast? Christina Applegate plays Gwendolyn a PTA extremist and when i mean extreme, yes in a very bad way. She's the antagonist if you will. The actress plays this character to perfection, especially when she approaches Amy. Great comedy from those wonderful scenes, it grabs you by the throat. What is a bad guy without his or in this case her crew. jada Pinkett Smith plays Stacy. Her character is a follower, but in her own weird way. She controls the situation be copying Gwen, or she makes it like she's a follower. And next up we have Vicky. This gal is just a follower, and she'll go with whomever the big fish is. Love the scene where Amy threw a party at her house, all the moms went, partied till they dropped, or they left at 11 pm on the dot. That scene is funny, laughed hard after the moment where everyone just picked up and went home.
"You know what, I think I'd let him put it in my butt. I'm not really into the butt thing but I would let him go to town back there." -Stacy-
"I'm with you." -Vicky-
My favorite scene in the film is off the trailers where the three ladies go into the supermarket, they make a huge mess, and really don't care what happens next. The security guard scene was very funny. The dude just ran after the gals; Until Carla charged him. That was really funny, in fact it's interesting the way the music played in the background. "I Love It," written by Charli XCX, Patrik Berger, and performed by Icona Pop. Credits for the music in that particular scene was awesome, it went with what the director was looking for. Feel, laughter, pure fun.
The bar scene where the gals are introducing each other, Kiki, Carla, and Amy. That scene is fantastic because it demonstrates that people are people, and we as a whole have many imperfections. The way they bonded was clearly amazing to me. I love this film because it's an all out stress free film. No more issues at least for the hour and forty seven minutes. Go rent it, see it, and buy it. Great all around film. The film has a release to it. Bad moms manages to grab you from the start, it makes you want more as the film progresses. Either way i give this film a go ahead.
