After my holiday break, i hope all of you folks had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I surely did. It was everything I'd hoped it would be. My wife had worked very hard to cook an awesome meal.
Now to bring up my last review a bit. Thor Ragnarok wasn't a good film. I stand by my thoughts and definitely my review of the film. The movie had so many issues I really don't know where to start. Granted I give the director for going in a very different direction. But other than that, that's really it. The only comparison I have is to check out the trailer for Thor, and then compare it to the Infinity War movie trailer. Ragnarok was empty, a loud film with an empty plot, no emotion or takes its self seriously. The Infinity War film trailer, alone you could see the main difference. My point is in both trailers. One is epic the other is humdrum and too stupid to even watch. In this review, i will go into detail of the film and compare it to the Marvel stronghold. I'm a huge comic fan, and not pro DC or Marvel.
Review:
Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) and Diana Prince (Gal Gadgot) go in search of other Metahumans. The war is about to begin. Steppenwolf (Ciaran Hinds) with his Parademons army is also in search of the Mother Box. Three total, it is powerful enough to bring a planet down. Steppenwolf is the second command to Darkseid. The final Mother box is within reach and Darkseid will cometh.
As Steppenwolf takes the Mother box from the Amazons, Atlanteans, the final box is close. His Parademons can smell fear. The battle between evil and good are about to begin. The Justice League, Wonder Woman (Gal Gadgot) , Cyborg (Ray Fisher), Batman (Ben Affleck), Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa), and Flash (Ezra Miller). Only Superman (Henry Cavill) remains. His death had somewhat a release. The Mother Box was able to bring back the man of steel. With the help of the team. Together they brought back the beacon of hope, Superman.
The action continues, Steppenwolf has the three boxes and the trans configuration begins. The Earth will become a new home for his master, Darkseid. The Justice League takes the battle to Steppenwolf. The scene is epic, it has Steppenwolf standing his ground. The other side the League. The boxing match continues until Superman saves the day.
The film simplistic approach really hits the mark. It makes me smile to see the heroes just do their thing. Some funny, others serious. Batman even made a crack about his superpower being rich. Really good. The moment was just a moment, unlike other films that threw in too much. The comedy was there to only a few characters, not everyone. The tone was serious because of the severity of the story. The bad guy taking over, killing everyone was a serious tone. The Thor Ragnarok film, meaning Ragnarok was supposed to be dark. It was the end of Asgard. The same applies to the Justice League. The film had to take a serious approach, because of the story. Granted the story was edited by Joss Wheadon who knows how to take things apart, making the characters connect the comic book way. Snyder would've made the film too seriously, it just needed a spice, that's all. And thanks to Wheadon it was enough for the film.
Story:
The film was simple, it was enough for me. Bad guy wants to destroy everything, the bad guy is doing his master's bidding, meaning Darkseid. This film was just the floor plans. Darkseid will come, and ultimately that's the main point. Imagine a film with no continuity, at least this plot has that, unlike that Marvel film Thor Ragnarok. Both have a bad guy, and both have special effects. The DC haters said the effects were bad in Justice League, but in Thor the effects were awesome. With that being said, I have to disagree in a big way. Both films had good effects, that's all part of being a superhero film. The imagery has to be more than subpar.
The balance of the characters was really good in Justice League. You know Barry, Cyborg, Aquaman. Even though some characters didn't have their own film, they still managed to be heroes in epic proportions. The main complaint of critics and Marvel Fan-boys are the characters in the Justice League didn't have backgrounds, anything. In BVS the Cyborg, Aquaman, and Flash were all in the plot. In small ways, but the connection was there. Unlike Ragnarok where Banner mentions he went through a portal and somehow crashed landed on the gladiator planet. The Vision was a joke in Ultron, and the Thor dream wasn't explained well. Not the writer's fault, per say, but a Hollywood issue. Black Widow didn't have her own movie but still managed to be loved. The whole joke about the backstory of characters is a big negative. What about QuickSilver, and the Scarlet Witch, both children of Magneto. You would think they would've mentioned that. Oops, Magneto is from another company FOX.
DC VS Marvel:
The whole battle between these two companies is really a joke. I love comics and try to stay on the source material which both companies don't do well. Both have made horrible movies. Iron Man 3, Thor Ragnarok, Fantastic 4. The fantastic 4 has been tried by both Marvel and their competitor company FOX, unsuccessful. The point here is simple. You want a character, make sure the hero is pretty close to the source material
The main issue here is the way the characters present themselves. In Justice League, the characters all had true connections. Cyborg at first was hesitant to work with Wonder Woman, but later proved himself useful, which added to the film. The human qualities of the character were all you needed. You already know some mystery behind him. Sometimes keeping things a secret is good for the overall film.
The battle between what film is good, bad is really a moot point. The characters are what makes the film. I hated Ragnarok because of no Lady Sif or Jane. Granted even if they broke up, let the writer tell you something. It was a joke and that pissed me off. Lady Sif, no mention.
In Justice League at least there was a connection with past events. The dream sequences in BVS, Parademons, all that stuff. Flash, Cyborg, Aquaman. The characters all came together. And my favorite part of the film was the Superman theme song as he punched Steppenwolf. An epic scene that made this film, what it is. Justice League was more than fun, it had action and the return of the man of steel, Superman.
