Planet Earth 1988, a boy waiting to hear about his mom in the hospital, sits and listens with headphones "Awesome Mix tape #1" on his walkman.  (Fooled Around and Fell in Love, by Elvin Bishop) His Grandpa (Gregg Henry) finds young Peter Quill (Wyatt Oleff) to see his mother, she is dying of cancer.  A present is given to him.   (She asks for his hand, to afraid to reach out, his Mother dies, and slowly takes her last breath.
Peter Quill (Wyatt Oleff) runs off crying, outside, dropping to his knees.  A bright light shines over him, a ship or craft from another world hovering above takes the boy.  The ship increases its speed until it disappears in the distance.
Twenty six years later on the planet Morag, an adult Terran by the name of Peter Quill aka Star-lord (Chris Pratt) is searching for an orb. Listening to his headphones walkman, Awesome mix tape #1.  (Hooked on a Feeling by Blue Swede). Entering a cave, he notices a strange looking orb.  Goes for it, grabs it from its place and suddenly Korath (Djimon Hounsou) appears behind him.  Pointing his rifle at Star-lord (Pratt), telling him to hand over the Orb.  Korath works for Ronan (Lee Pace) an intergalactic enforcer known for killing thousands.  Thanos (Josh Brolin) wants the orb in exchange for destroying Xandar.
Here is where i usually go off on a tangent. Was the Film good? The answer pure and simple, yes.  The film has it all, action, comedy, special effects, and a great story. All those elements are key points to a film, especially in Sci-fi. The movie has ships, explosions, everything you could want in this type of movie.  Not to compare, but this film went into the story right from the beginning sequence. The Phantom Menance had so many problems establishing characters, action, and very important story format.  The reason I'm making a comparison is because the Phantom Menance had a flux of characters with no direction in the story, the story from beginning was flat. The Guardians started strong, and flowed  well. Went with the story format, that being said, that's it with the Star Wars comparison.
Huge gamble for the filmmakers, it paid off big. Go see the film and enjoy it; Guardians of the galaxy is a pure joy for comic and Sci-fi fans alike.
