Gravity
Director: Alfonso Cuaron
Writers: Alfonso Cuaron, Jonas Cuaron, and George Clooney.
Cast: Sandra Bullock (Ryan Stone), George Clooney (Matt Kowalski), Ed Harris (Mission Control), Orto Ignatiussen (Aningaaq), Phaldut Sharma (Shariff), Amy Warren (Explorer Captain), and Basher Savage (Russian Space Station), voice.
Bio-medical engineer Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) and Matt Kowalski (George Clooney), a veteran astronaut commanding his last expedition. Stone (Bullock) is on her fist mission, STS-157, an important space walk, they're repairing a panel on the Hubble Space Telescope.
Mission Control instructs both Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) and Matt Kowalski (George Clooney) to abort the mission. Debris from a Russian missile strike on faulty satellite, created a chain reaction which caused debris field, the debris will be on the STS within minutes. As the crew try to react quickly, they realize that the debris field is upon them, smashing the STS, fragments spinning everywhere. Communication with Houston, Mission Control is lost, but Kowalski (Clooney) continues to communicate, hoping ground control can hear them.
The speed of the debris field was strong enough to throw Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) out of reach from her fellow space walker, Kowalski (Clooney). Stone spins as she is unable to focus, Kowalski (Clooney) tries to instruct her, but she panics, only her partner, commander to the space mission is able to take her through the ordeal.
90 minutes before the debris field makes it's way to them, a race against time, they must get to the Russian Space station before the 90 minutes is up. Both Stone (Bullock), and Kowalski (Clooney) realize they lost the whole crew, and the space shuttle is beyond repair.
Rant: The film has very little dialog, it's enhanced special effects tell the story of what i call, "a really bad day," from debris flying everywhere to Sandra Bullock trying to think her way out of the next probl solving moment. Because one thing happens after another, strong sequences takes us to that dark place in space where life is not possible, like the filmed opened to. If your not a space junkie like me, then this film isn't for you. The opening credits gives you a hint of the films subject matter, as well as the name.

The film's angles, shots, are amazing, the feel of space is felt, where i had to almost turn away a bit, my stomach churned, yes it did, not cool at all, but it did. The overall experience, and entertainment is really good, and that is the core of the film.
The main problem in the film is the realism, not knocking the film, and the way it was developed, but let's face the facts, the problems Bullock's character faced was not only overwhelming, but impossible. The scene where she is in the Chinese space station, she was able to figure out what to do, in every moment as she pushes buttons, she experienced pressure, almost to much, but in the end she endured. You could be the smartest person in the world, even with your knowledge, understanding a difficult language, especially under extreme pressure will not happen. Your efforts will be in vain. The pod is descending, you manage to figure out the right buttons to push, and eureka! the survival rate for the character increases by 50 percent, because it's cool, and the director wanted it that way; remember the core I mentioned, Gravity was about the fun and entertainment.
Gravity has wonderful sequences that tell the story to perfection, it takes you with the astronauts all the way. Stone (Bullock) scenes were done well, her challenging moments throughout the film make you want to stick it out. The film's challenging scenes can be taken as either extreme luck or entertainment. Dr. Ryan Stone was a strong willed character, she managed to overcome. Her wit, and intelligence helped along the way. She was determined to continue, survive, and get home. I loved the scene with Matt Kowalski (George Clooney) sitting next to Stone (Bullock) in the pod, giving her words of encouragement. That particular scene was what hooked me to the film, even though there wasn't a lot of dialog, it still managed to tell a good story.
The science in the film wasn't perfect but two high fives to the director, Alfonso Cuaron, his direction made the film what it is, the shots, overall feeling of space was all his doing, so to the folks who think the film's sequences were bad, i disagree with them, not because I'm a huge science junkie but because I love the way the sequences were smooth, you never where lost, all was told. In some of my other reviews i pretty much go with the story first, and special effects follow suit, well Gravity is in reverse, the story was told with the use of the surroundings and the dangerous environment around the characters.
Do i recommend Gravity, yes i do, not just for the effects but because you're going to miss a great movie experience, incredible camera shots, special effects, and wonderful acting from Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. This film has some problems, but overall it's really good. Be patient, and you will enjoy a quality film. Maybe space exploration isn't your thing. The feminist will love the film because it portrays a strong female lead over-coming impossible odds. To me Bullock's character was believable, her issues at home in her thoughts, and yet she is in space where a very real situation went from bad to worse, her character was able to overcome, and that plot ark was all i needed to win me over.
