A molecular biologist Ian (Michael Pitt) his laboratory partner, Karen (Brit Marling), and Kenny (Steven Yeun) are researching ways to disprove the origins of mankind by observing, studying eyes from various species. Until one night, a party, Ian (Pitt) meets a woman, she watches him from afar, as he glances into her eyes which catches her attention.  They connect, both gaze at each other, exchange some words, Ian (Pitt) takes pictures of her eyes, he tells her the eyes are the center point of the human being, but her gaze is stronger, she leads him to a place where they can be alone. She jumps on top of him, wraps her arms around him, a soft moan, which is interrupted by a tear trickling down her cheek, something is wrong, she jumps off of Ian and runs, the exchange was powerful, but that deep moment made a definite impression on Ian (Michael Pitt). His mind runs off a bit, as he loses her running to a cab, and that moment fades as reality sets in.

Days without sleep Ian (Michael Pitt) can't focus on the research that has consumed him, for years on end. The only thing on his mind, was the stranger, a woman he had taken a picture of her eyes, the only thing that makes him focus right now.  Karen (Brit Marling) continues to talk about the research she and had done on her own, she tells him about the species, what the probability will be, how the numbers work together, but Ian knows the numbers, he tries to hold back, because Karen (Marling) is in her first year, and all he is thinking about is that woman, he had met last night, yes his research is important, but the connection he had felt, has him going crazy.

The number eleven became something more for Ian (Pitt), he had found the connection.  The convenient store, after he had played the lotto, the exact change, the bus, and the bill board had one thing in common, they all were in some ways connected to the number eleven.  Call it fate, or consequence, the number eleven brought him to her.  The bus, brought him to the train which she is on, he follows her, putting his ear phones on her ears while she walks off, Ian follows behind, gentle steps, and then she turns and both kiss.  He had found her, and wasn't going to let her go, the connection is far to strong to let go. Their two roads cross, he takes her somewhere, so he could get some answers. Ian (Pitt) talks to her in a diner, they both talk about fate, life, the number eleven which led him to her, he tells her information, facts are the reason he had found her, but she interrupts and tells him that the number eleven, was the connection, Sofi is a spiritualist, she connects on different levels "Why are you working so hard to disprove God?" Sofi (Astrid Berges-Frisbey) her voice tender but direct.  Ian answered back, with conviction behind him, as he was lecturing a student body.  "Disprove? Who proved that God was there in the first place."

Rant: These two go on from the point i left off of, they fall in love, one is a scientist, while the other is a spiritual person, she explains fate very differently than Ian.  Sofi believes everything has a reason, chances do not happen, like the number eleven the led Ian to her.  The movie has a very, i mean very controversial plot, and i will go into that later, but right now lets talk about the deep connection the characters have with each other.  The research team consist of Ian, Karen, and Kenny played by Steven Yeun.  Steven has a small part but his strong connection to the other characters makes this computer geek loved.  No Walking Dead reference here, none at all, he's just a really good actor, playing a small part, so sorry i mentioned the zombie series.  Anyway, the characters all have a really good connection, for example, Ian and Karen are the main characters, both want the research to be done, so that they could finally come to the understanding that science plays a bigger picture, Kenny is the third wheel, but an important piece of the puzzle.  He works hard, while Ian is away on his adventures with Sofi.  Speaking of Sofi, she is very different, but yet her connection hits Ian pretty hard, despite his beliefs, and structures, which changes him as a person, his self absorbed notion between their interactions give Ian an almost, i know the facts, and that's it.

The film was pretty good, the gross compared to opening weekend shows a very high trend.  27,652, to a gross of 334,658.  The trend of the film tells me simply, that the film did well, it's opening was horrible but the final numbers in the end did well.  The content, and the origin of the story works, it is a story of a scientist, an introvert i mean he was pretty mean to Sofi in some scenes, but that strong connection the actors have are what makes this film.  Think about it, a mean scientist who? thinks he knows everything, hits the wall with a spiritualist woman.  The relationship was really good, a beautiful thing, until Sofi spiritualism, angers Ian, which kills their relationship, but Sofi being a kindred spirit, defuses his anger.

The film deals with resurrection a controversial topic.  Because it makes for a good story, and plot, especially the way the story ended up, hits you pretty hard.  Sofi leads Ian to a different place, a spiritual, beautiful place. Imagine someone trying to convince you that God doesn't exists, but one day that very person gets hit by a car, has a spiritual event, and something beautiful happens, his life is altered altogether.  This film is just about that, Ian falls in love, Sofi dies in a horrible elevator accident, while having a spiritual conversation, later Ian marries Karen and they have a baby together, the research he and Karen had worked on become a reality.

Tobias is the baby Karen and Ian have together, Doctor Simmons has diagnosed Tobias with Autism, after the eyes have been scanned in the system.  Tobias is connected to the folks in a dairy farm, some pictures were taken of the family, presented in photos, somehow the connection is there, so Ian and his wife Karen embark on a journey, connect the dots, which lead them to India.  Salomina the young girl has a connection with Sofi who passed on, and somehow her traits has been resurrected in the young girl.  Ian travels far to prove that his theory will remain untouched.  The real miracle was Ian finally learning something, new and beautiful.  The topic of this story is definitely not for your typical action fan, superhero geek, or mystery types, but it deals with two people, or in this case three people that love each other, Sofi taught Ian how to live spiritually, while Karen only grafted the old Ian, in the end Ian learns something more than his research, a little girl from another place has somehow connected, and that is the beauty of this film. Do i recommend this film, yes, not because of the actors, but the flow of the story, deep connections the characters have with one another, that is the core to a story, a marker on the map, the peg on your GPS.  The story will always have true connection, and will always succeed.
